A Penny for Your Thoughts on self care

The world is inundated with ads, recommendations, and advice on how to practice Self Care.  We are told “meditate, exercise, practice gratitude, be optimistic. Plus, to get the best results, make sure you do it daily for the best results.

The desire to live our optimal life can lead us down a rabbit hole where our expectations to live a better life and achieve these new goals can sometimes make us feel worse than before. Not being able to check off all the boxes of our new “ sought after” lifestyle can leave us feeling frustrated. This can cause a greater strain on an already fragile relationship with ourselves as we come to realize that we have failed at our quest to try and self- care.

It all comes down to simplicity.  Simplicity in choosing what feels natural to you. The mainstream media would like you to follow the herd instead of following your own intuition.  I follow the simple steps of dialing back when I’m feeling overwhelmed and yes, I meditate, I  journal and write letters (most are never delivered)  and I also sit with nature.    My greatest self-care is meditation.  The practice of meditation took time, it took some reflection and it took patience.  I learned to listen to the whispers within myself. Meditation looks different to everyone.

The moment you remember to accept the importance of your life and the unique journey you are on and ignore the people we are told to admire online or the person that appears to be doing better than us, is when you can shift into the direction of what works for you.

Small steps lead to great discoveries of hearing divine guidance and the powerful whispers that speak to our soul. So, whether it is meditating, exercising, taking a hot bath or cooking: if the whisper within us is steady and constant then we get to live our authentic life, and that in itself is pretty incredible.

When we get to the point where we can self-care the best way for us, then we alone can choose how much we want to give and how much we want to receive. You alone know your needs. So, practice self- care, be simple in the choices so you don’t get overwhelmed. Do what works for you. If you need help starting this journey, please reach out to me!
